Sylvester Stallone in Samaritan

Prime Video have shared a new clip from Julius Avery’s Samaritan, starring Sylvester Stallone as a superhero who is about to be forced out of retirement. The film is now available to stream.

Thirteen-year-old Sam Cleary (Javon “Wanna” Walton) suspects that his mysterious and reclusive neighbor Mr. Smith (Stallone) is actually a legend hiding in plain sight. Twenty years ago, Granite City’s super-powered vigilante, Samaritan, was reported dead after a fiery warehouse battle with his rival, Nemesis. Most believe Samaritan perished in the fire, but some in the city, like Sam, have hope that he is still alive. With crime on the rise and the city on the brink of chaos, Sam makes it his mission to coax his neighbor out of hiding to save the city from ruin.

The film is directed by Julius Avery, who gave us the underrated Overlord back in 2018, and the screenplay is penned by Bragi F. Schut (Escape Room). Samaritan is produced by Stallone’s production company, Balboa Productions.

Samaritan also stars Pilou Asbæk (Game of Thrones), Dascha Polanco (Orange Is the New Black), Jared Odrick, and Moises Arias (The King of Staten Island).

The film will be released on Prime Video following Amazon’s $8.5 billion acquisition of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer earlier this year.
