Cillian Murphy in Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer

Universal Pictures have shared an announcement trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer online, following a brief exclusive run in cinemas. The film, starring Cillian Murphy as American scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer, is slated for a July 2023 release.

Oppenheimer follows theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer (Murphy), the director of the Los Alamos Laboratory during the Manhattan Project, and his contributions that led to the creation of the atomic bomb.

The site’s official website also now has a countdown for the film’s release (because of course it does). The trailer is playing live over on Universal Pictures’s Youtube channel, and the countdown also appears within the trailer and updates with each loop.

Who stars in Oppenheimer?

Jokes have been frequently made on social media each time a new big name is attached to the project, but this cast is no joke.

Starring alongside Murphy is Florence Pugh, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Rami Malik, Kenneth Brannagh, Matthew Modine, Josh Harnett, Alden Ehrenreich, Dane DeHaan, and Gustaf Skarsgård to name just a few.

Oppenheimer will be distributed by Universal Pictures following Nolan’s disagreement with Warner Bros. on their theatrical and HBO Max release strategy. It’s his first film since 2000’s Memento not to be released by Warner Bros.

Oppenheimer is set to open in cinemas July 2023
